Attempted Gun Purchase Flagged, Charge Follows For West Chester Man
A West Chester who man tried to buy a firearm in Thornbury Township but was flagged as prohibited has been charged.
THORNBURY TOWNSHIP, PA — A West Chester man who is prohibited from possessing firearms was flagged by a system that checks purchasers and the suspect has been charged, according to police.
Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department reported Ryan Greer, 42, of West Chester, attempted to purchase a firearm from a Federal Firearms Dealer in Thornbury Township, on Aug. 18.
The attempted purchase was declined by the Pennsylvania Instant Checks System, overseen by the Pennsylvania State Police, after finding that Ryan Greer is a person prohibited from possessing or owning a firearm. He was charged on Sept. 14, police reported.

In a preliminary hearing Monday before Magisterial District Judge Martin Gocha, a felony charge against Greer of making a materially false written statement was withdrawn, while a misdemeanor charge of statement under penalty remained, according to court documents.
Greer is free on $20,000 bail, court records show.
