WEST CHESTER, PA — Back-to-school planning is happening in West Chester Area School District now, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day in WCASD, and info on policies as school starts.
The first day of school for most students in the West Chester area is Aug. 30.
Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point. A big question in school communities is masks — and if they will be required.

Effective June 28 masks became optional in the District, in accordance with the Governor's order
and Chester County Health Department recommendations. However, unvaccinated staff members and students are encouraged to wear a mask while indoors, the School District's website stated. Masks are optional for all West Chester Area School District activities.
The West Chester Area School District will adhere to any changes in guidance as recommended by the Chester County Health Department. The District's Health and Safety Plan as updated June 28 can be found here.

Here is a list of important dates to know for this school year in the West Chester Area School District:
First Day: Aug. 30
Labor Day: Sept. 6 with no school Sept. 7
Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 25-26 with no school Nov. 24 for parent conferences
Winter Break: Dec. 24-31
Spring Break: April 14-18
Last Day: June 14 for students, June 16 for teachers
