Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Police Vehicle Is West Chester Man: Police

WEST GOSHEN, PA— A bicyclist struck and killed by a police vehicle Sunday on South High Street is identified as 75-year-old Michael Thomas Ghione of West Chester, police report today.

West Goshen police said the department was notified at 10:16 a.m. of a collision involving a Westtown-East Goshen police vehicle and a cyclist.

Police said a Westtown-East Goshen police officer was responding to a call when the officer collided with the cyclist.

Ghione was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the police officer is being withheld.

The initial investigation disclosed the cyclist was riding north on South High Street in the area of the Route 202 overpass when the cyclist was struck by a police vehicle also driving north on the 900 block of South High Street.

The investigation by West Goshen Police Department is ongoing. District Attorney Deb Ryan's office will review the case.
