Big Changes This Weekend on Major Chester County Road

Know what to expect before you head out.

Written by Nate Adams

This weekend will mark some big changes on U.S. 202 in Chester County between West Chester and King of Prussia.

Here's the latest on what's happening with the Route 202 construction project, from its homepage on the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's website.

  • From 8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 24) to 10 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 25), southbound Route 202 will be reduced from two lanes to one between the Swedesford Road and Route 401 interchanges for barrier realignment, glare screen installation and the moving of two southbound lanes to the northbound side of the highway. Intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages will occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

  • From 8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 24) to 10 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 25), intermittent traffic stoppages will occur on the westbound Swedesford Road on-ramp to Route 202 south.

  • From 8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 24) to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 26), the Route 202 south off-ramp to Route 29 south (Malvern) will be closed and detoured. The posted detour will direct motorists to use the Route 29 north (Great Valley) off-ramp, then turn left on Swedesford Road and follow Swedesford Road to Route 29 (Morehall Road).

  • From 8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 24) to Sept. 7, the Swedesford Road on-ramp to Route 202 south will be closed and detoured for the construction of a temporary crossover lane. This on-ramp is located directly across from Liberty Boulevard. A posted detour will take motorists west on Swedesford Road to the on-ramp for Route 202 south, which is located just west of the Route 29 (Morehall Road) intersection.

  • The Route 202 north off-ramp to Route 29 south and the westbound Swedesford Road on-ramp to Route 202 north will remain closed until Sept. 7.
