Carjacking In Chester County Results In Arrest
A 19-year-old Wilmington man is in a Delaware prison on charges of holding a motorist at gunpoint in January 2021 and fleeing with an SUV.
KENNETT SQUARE, PA — A 19-year-old man is in a Delaware prison Monday morning in lieu of $200,000 bail awaiting extradition to Chester County on charges of a carjacking in Kennett Square in January 2021.
Shaheed Smith, of Wilmington, DE., is accused of holding a victim at gunpoint in the early morning of Jan.6. 2021 in the 300 block of Juniper Street and fleeing with her Nissan SUV.
Smith is charged with five counts of robbery, recklessly endangering another person and related charges.

According to Kennett Square police:
- Smith held up a motorist at gunpoint and feld with the victim’s SUV at 1:20 a.m.
- Several hours later, Wilmington police had located the stolen vehicle, which had been in a hit-and-run accident.
- Kennett Square identified Smith as a suspect following through videos on social media.
- An arrest warrant was issued on April 13, 2021 by Kennett Square District Judge Albert Iacocca.
