WEST CHESTER - The victims of a Memorial Day weekend double murder in Valley Township were identifed Tuesday as the mother of the suspect’s son and a pregnant friend.

Mamadou Kallie, 23, of Coatesville is accused of fatally shooting Tiara Rodriguez-Diaz, 20, the mother of his 22-month-old son, and her friend, Kimberly Ortiz-Zayas, 20, who was five months pregnant.

The boy was uninjured and is staying in Coatesville with relatives of the suspect, according to Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan.

Investigators said that they believe Kallie removed his son from his mother’s car before he fatally shot the two women in the car in the 300 block of East Glencrest Road, Valley Township. Both victims resided in Coatesville.

Valley Township Police Chief Glenn Eckman thanked all of the law enforcement departments for their collaboration in finding and arresting Kallie.

Kallie is accused of the slayings and a carjacking another person during a two-hour and 20 minute period that ended in his arrest. The events covered four Chester County municipalities.

“Valley Township experienced a horrific double murder on a holiday weekend when family and friends were supposed to enjoy summer’s unofficial start," Eckman said. "Instead, two young women and an unborn child are dead. It was a brutal scene for law enforcement to process."

Kallie is in Chester County Prison without bail on charges of first-degree murder, murder of an unborn child, carjacking, endangering the welfare of a child and related charges.

The case

According to police:

  • At 9:22 p.m. Sunday, Coatesville police officers responded to a call involving a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Mount Pleasant Street.

Rodriguez-Diaz was in her Red Toyota with her son in the backseat. She told police everything was fine. Kallie became agitated, but walked away and got in his black Ford.

  • At 9:52 p.m., Valley Township police responded to an accident and reports of nine shots being fired in the 300 block of East Glencrest Road. Rodriguez-Diaz was taken to Paoli Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police followed a trail of blood from the car to the side of the road where they found Ortiz-Zayas, who was five months pregnant. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

  • At 10: 45 p.m., West Chester police responded to a carjacking at Route 162 and Telegraph Road, East Bradford Township.

An acquaintance of Kallie reported he was held at gunpoint, and his car had been stolen by the suspect. After a police pursuit, the suspect was stopped in Caln Township.

  • At 11:04 p.m., the suspect exited the car holding a gun to himself.
  • At 11:41 p.m., police negotiated the suspect's peaceful surrender.

Police recovered the firearm the suspect was holding, which contained a live round in the chamber and a live round in the magazine.

Chester County detectives and Valley Township police are investigating. Deputy District Attorney Erin O’Brien is the assigned prosecutor.
