Chesco Police Task Force On Race To Show 'Walking While Black'

Chester County Law Enforcement Task Force on Race and Justice will present the film 'Walking While Black' on June 8 in Coatesville.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Chester County Law Enforcement Task Force on Race and Justice will present a Town Hall film screening and discussion in Coatesville focused on the improvement of relationships between police and communities of color.

Titled, "Walking While Black," a program presentation will bring a message about reconciliation that addresses the need to improve those relationships. Directed and produced by A.J. Ali, a disabled veteran, the film has won international acclaim and been recognized by the NAACP and others.

After the free 60-minute screening, trained facilitators from The Peace Center will lead small-group discussions at the New Life in Christ Fellowship church. Groups will then reconvene together to share what was learned.

The county said the film screening is a meaningful opportunity to help bridge the communication gap between Coatesville residents and law enforcement. The event is one in an ongoing series of workshops the task force is hosting in communities around Chester County.

The Town Hall is on Tuesday, June 8 at 6 p.m. at New Life in Christ Fellowship, 1 South 5th Ave., in Coatesville. It is expected to last until 8:15 p.m.

The mission of the Chester County Law Enforcement Task Force on Race and Justice is to improve the relationship between communities of color and law enforcement. Representing a cross-section of the county, task force members include police chiefs, rank-and-file police officers, community leaders, residents of color, the NAACP, social workers, and representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, Chester County's government website states.
