Deer-related Crash Results In West Chester Driver Charged

State troopers charge a 33-year-old man with speeding and driving with a revoked license in a deer-related crash.

CHESTER COUNTY — A deer crossed a two-lane state road in Honey Brook Township, causing a 33-year-old West Chester motorist to crash into a boulder and collide with multiple trees, state police reported.
The driver, James Schwartz, was charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding according to a police report filed Saturday, Aug. 6.

State police at Embreeville reported:

Schwartz was driving north on Morgantown Road in Honeybrook Township at 9:51 p.m. Aug. 3 when a deer entered the roadway, causing Schwartz to travel in the opposite lane, striking a bolder and multiple trees, disabling his vehicle.

According to PennDOT, Chester County had 241 deer-related crashes in 2021, up slightly from 2020 when there were 210.

There was one deer-related crash fatality in Chester County in 2021 and one in 2020, according to the report.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission reports that dawn and dusk are the peak times for deer-related crashes.
