Election 2023: Matt Holt Runs For Chester County Judge

Holt, a Tredyffrin Township supervisor, who has years of experience in family and civil court, plans to run for judge in the May primary.


PAOLI, PA —Matt Holt, an attorney and Tredyffrin Township supervisor, announced Monday his candidacy for a Chester County Court of Common Pleas judgeship in the 2023 May primary.

“Now, more than ever, our court system plays a vital role in protecting our basic freedoms and liberties,” Holt said. “I look forward to bringing my diverse legal experience and background as an elected public servant to the courthouse and ensuring equal access to justice for all.”

Five judgeships are expected to open up on the Chester County bench in 2023, including two judgeships filled in July on an interim basis by attorneys Nicole R. Forato and Louis Mincarelli, according to Kevin Burk, Holt’s campaign consultant.

Judges are elected to 10-year terms and earn an annual salary of $197,119.

Legal experience

A Chester County native, Holt grew up in Phoenixville before graduating from Georgetown University and Penn State Dickinson School of Law.
Holt started his career with Philadelphia-based, national law firm, Fox Rothschild LLP, specializing as a civil litigator and family law attorney.

Holt is a senior counsel at WSFS Bank, where he leads the legal team for the Bryn Mawr Trust wealth management division.

“From commercial disputes to divorce proceedings, common pleas judges can face a wide range of different cases,” Holt said. “I will bring a variety of legal, government, corporate, and non-profit experience, allowing me to handle any case that comes before the court.

“Orphans’ Court is a particular passion of mine,” Holt continued. “In my current role, I counsel the bank in a wide range of litigation matters with an emphasis on fiduciary matters, including special needs and personal trusts, guardianships and estates.”

Public Service

Holt serves his community as a Tredyffrin Township supervisor, being elected twice to the position.

Holt also volunteers on the Board of Community Volunteers in Medicine, a West Chester- based organization providing free healthcare services to uninsured, lower income residents.

In addition, he also serves as board member on the Tredyffrin Township Libraries Foundation.

Holt has been married to his wife of 11 years, Lauren, who is also a local attorney. They have two children, Truman and Quincy.

“The last line of defense for our country’s freedoms is the rule of law,” Holt said. “As a father to two young boys and community leader, I want to be sure that our fundamental values are protected for them and all Chester County families.”

Court of Common Pleas judges judges in Pennsylvania have a mandatory retirement age of 75.

The primary election is scheduled for May 16 the general election to be held Nov. 7.
