First Swingin' Summer Thursday Ends in Soaker

The sizzle fizzles as first of Thursday summer jazz events turns into a super soaker.

Thursday night marked the opening of the 2013 Swingin' Summer Thursdays on East Gay Street between High and Darlington streets.  It's supposed to be a street party with live bands at both events of the two blocks.

Everything started out great until Mother Nature crashed the party. A steady, soaking rain sent performers, vendors, and the public ducking for cover and public works crews racing to take down tents, and get as much of the tables packed away before the rain ruined it.

Borough Program Coordinator Meghan Sullivan says there is no raindate to make up for the two thirds of the evening that were rained out.

There will be three more opportunities to enjoy a night of music and shopping. Thursday's was the first of four scheduled monthly concerts.
