Former West Chester Woman, 91, Remembered For 'Charming, Upbeat Smile' Passes Away

Terry Mellon, formerly of West Chester, was remembered for her charm and her upbeat personality.

Mary Teresa “Terry” O’Reilly Mellon, 91, of Kimberton, PA, passed away of old age on November 19, 2016. Born 7/9/25 in Philadelphia, PA, and married 7/19/47.

Predeceased by parents Hubert Timothy O’Reilly and Mary Lyons O’Reilly, originally from Ireland, husband Gerard Mellon Sr. and son Gerard Mellon Jr. Survived by children Maureen Mellon Thompson (Kendall), San Jose, CA, James L. Mellon (Beth), Richland, PA, Cynthia M. Ryan (Bill) Kimberton, PA, Mark T. Mellon (Lis) Grantham, NH. Grandchildren James, Lisa, Jessica, Christopher, Deborah, Patrick, Maureen, Lydia, Joanna. Great grandchildren Isabelle, Annie, Kaylie, Mercy and AJ. Predeceased by brothers Hubert O’Reilly, Larry O’Reilly and Brian O’Reilly. Survived by siblings Frances Wankmuller (Bob) of Yuba City, CA, John O’Reilly of West Chester PA, and Charles O’Reilly of Claymont, DE and numerous nephews and neices, in-laws and out-laws.

Terry graduated from West Catholic High School. Her mother died in 1942 leaving the high school senior to help raise her siblings. She married Gerard Mellon in 1947 and they had five children.

When she was younger Terry worked at the Frankford Arsenal and later as office manager at Villanova School of Nursing. She moved from Rosemont to Hershey’s Mill in West Chester, PA where she made many friends. After suffering a stroke in 2010 which affected her speech, Terry lived happily at Spring Mill in Kimberton, PA where she delighted the staff and other residents with her upbeat personality and charming smile.

She enjoyed dancing, drawing, music, and golf. She especially loved conversation with her family members and many friends. She cherished her Irish Catholic heritage and reminisced about her 1988 visit to the old sod to meet her cousins in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo.

Service: Terry Mellon’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday November 23, 2016 at a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil the Great Roman Catholic Church, 2300 Kimberton Road in Kimberton, PA. Visitation 9:30-10:30. Mass at 10:30. Internment private. Please join the family for a glorious send-off luncheon at The Columbia Station, 4 Bridge Street, in Phoenixville PA, immediately following the service.
