Hearing Set For Downingtown Man Accused Of Causing Fatal Overdose

Nathan Hurd is in Chester County Prison in lieu of on charges of causing the death of a 33-year-old Westtown woman.

CHESTER COUNTY —A 31-year-old Downingtown man is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 25 on charges including delivering drugs that resulted in the Aug. 24 death of a 33-year-old Westtown woman.

Nathan Hurd is in Chester County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail on a charge of drug delivery that resulted in death awaiting a hearing before District Judge Martin G. Goch.

In 2015, the state enacted state law allowing police to charge suspects with drug delivery resulting in death, which carries a penalty of 20 to 40 years.

In August, Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department and Chester County detectives launched an investigation in August following the death of the victim.

After a four-month investigation, charges were filed and a warrant was issued for Hurd’s arrest.

Subsequently, state police located Hurd during a traffic stop in Montgomery County on Dec. 17 and Hurd was taken into custody.

A total of 49 suspects in Chester County were charged with drug delivery causing death from 2015 to 2019, according to the statistics from the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania.
