WEST CALN TOWNSHIP, PA — A massive and historic tree in Chester County was felled by the powerful storm that whipped through the region on Wednesday night, officials said.

The black oak, also known as quercus velutina, had stood rooted in West Caln Township's Layton Park for several hundred years.

The 74-foot high tree measured 16 feet in circumference, while its canopy spread some 110 feet by 124 feet, the township's Board of Supervisors says.
