Local Pottery Store Camp Could be the Cure for Kids' Summer Doldrums

Kids get fired up over this hands-on pottery and painting camp.

Now that summer's well underway, kids and parents may be more than ready for something new to do. The Painted Plate at 104 West Market Street could be just the place to get the kids up, out and shaking off the mid-summer doldrums.

The paint-it yourself pottery place is running week-long summer camps for the 14th year in a row.  There are still three sessions scheduled for July 22nd-26th, August 5th-9th and Aug 19th-23rd.  Each camp runs Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.  Cost is $149 for the week.

The camp is open to kids ages seven and up.

There are different projects each day of the camp. Some of the activities include:

Wet clay projects: Kids turn a lump of clay into a work of art. They will be using clay tools, and glazing their masterpieces!

Pottery Painting: Campers learn painting techniques on prefired pottery. The finished products are designed for every day use.

Glass Fusing: The kids will learn how to use glass cutting tools and make  projects that blend color and light!

Canvas Painting: Organizers say this activity is new to the camp. Students learn how to create a canvas painting they can hang on the wall.

The Painted Plate does not take camp reservations by phone. You will need to stop by the store or call.  Full details can be found on The Painted Plate's website.

What are your kids doing this summer?
