Man Rams Oxford Borough Cop Car During Traffic Stop: Police

A driver pulled over in Oxford put his vehicle in reverse and struck the squad that pulled him over before taking off, according to police.

OXFORD, PA — A driver pulled over in Oxford Borough after midnight last night put his vehicle into reverse and slammed the front of a police squad car before taking off and hitting two other cars, police said.

In the early morning hours of June 8, Oxford Borough Police reported they pulled over a vehicle in the area of Lincoln street. The vehicle stopped at Park and N. Third streets, police said, and then it reversed and struck the front of the police car that has made the traffic stop.

The two vehicles the driver hit while taking off were unoccupied, the report said.

Police reported they pursued the driver who was later identified as Jaheed Xavier Phares, 18, of Collingdale.

Police said Phares was taken into custody. He is charged with Aggravated Assault, a felony, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer, also a felony. He is also charged with summary offenses including Driving the Wrong Way, No Headlights, Disregarding Traffic Lanes, Reckless Driving, and other offenses.

He posted bail of $5,000, court records state. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22 in Chester County District Court.
