Mushroom Festival Begins Saturday, Sept. 9 in Kennett Square

The two-day festival provides activities, music, educational programs and more all revolving around mushrooms.

KENNETT SQUARE, PA— The 38th annual Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square is Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10 at North Broad and East State streets in Kennett Square. The festivities begin at 10 a.m.

Kennett Square is considered the “Mushroom Capital of the World," producing over 500 million mushrooms annually.

The Chester County borough celebrates fall with a two-day event of mushroom-themed activities including educational programs, music, and a mushroom picking contest.

The annual festival attracts more than 100,000 mushroom lovers from Pennsylvania, New New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

The event features a mushroom growers tent with a variety of mushrooms for local farmers and tips on how to grow them.

There is also a chopped-style cooking competition in which contestants have 30 minutes to create mushroom dishes.

Other events include a mushroom-picking contest, an antique car show, a silent auction, and vendors with mushroom-themed products,
