New Details Of Lincoln University Shooting Emerge: DA

An investigation disclosed one shooter fired a bullet that struck two women visiting a residential building on campus.

LOWER OXFORD, PA —A lone gunman fired one bullet that struck two women, ending up lodged in one of the victim’s ankles, during a Spring Fling celebration at Lincoln University over the weekend, an investigation disclosed.

County detectives, meanwhile, are still searching Monday for a suspect, according to Chester District Attorney Deb Ryan.

“Thousands of people were terrified during this unexpected shooting, and it is very fortunate that there were no fatalities,” the district attorney said.

Detectives said that one gunshot was fired by an unknown suspect passing through one victim’s thigh and striking the second victim’s ankle.

The victims were on the second floor of a university residential facility with several hundred others at 10 p.m. Saturday when the shooting occurred. One victim was on a bench and the other was standing nearby, police said.

Both women were taken to Christiana Hospital. One was released Sunday and the other is expected to be released today.

Update on last year's fatal stabbing

On Feb. 16, 2022, a fatal stabbing occurred during a fight in a dorm room on the Lincoln University campus.

Nydira Smith, 40, of Philadelphia, is in Chester County Prison awaiting trial on first-degree murder.

Smith is accused of stabbing Jawine Evans, 21, and wounding Clifton Walker, 22, and Eric Dickerson, also 22, during a brawl after 9 p.m.

Smith is a sister of a student at Lincoln University who was involved in the fight with all three students stabbed.
