WEST CHESTER— A 45-year-old nurse was sentenced Friday in Chester County Justice Center to six months to a year in the county jail for stealing Subutex, a drug used for opioid addiction, while employed at the Recovery Centers of America in Easttown Township.

Chester County Judge Ann Marie Wheatcraft also ordered Molly Munro of Horsham, Montgomery County, to serve two years of probation following the prison term.

Munro was fired on Feb. 6 from her job at the recovery center following an internal investigation, police said.

Officials at the recovery center notified police on Feb. 5 that an internal investigation into missing drugs was conducted.

Video showed Munro swapping Subutex pills for Tylenol and Paxil, which were then given to other patients.

Munro replaced the Subutex over one to two weeks to ensure a correct pill count.

Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said Molly Munro’s only concern was for herself, not those she’d taken an oath to care for and protect.
“Her selfish and criminal actions endangered her patients’ lives and jeopardized their recoveries from substance abuse disorder,” Ryan said. “This breach of trust of Recovery Centers of America and their clients deserves punishment and justice.”

Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Amoroso prosecuted the case.

The public is asked to contact police for help with individuals suffering from a substance use disorder.

A new Chester County program, Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative, calls for police to connect substance abuse addicts to treatment.
