A "damaging" tornado touched down in Chester County during a fierce thunderstorm Sunday evening, weather officials said. Here's where:

NEW LONDON, PA - A “damaging” tornado touched down in Chester County during a fierce thunderstorm Sunday evening, weather officials said.

Shortly before 8 p.m., a “damaging” tornado touched down in New London, the National Weather Service said in an archived statement.

It was not immediately clear how far the tornado traveled or how strong it was categorized.

A tornado warning was issued near Berks, Chester, Lehigh, Montgomery and Lancaster counties around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to tweets from the National Weather Service. Pea-sized hail was also possible during the storm, according to the alerts.

Storms hit areas west of Philadelphia in the early afternoon, moving east into the evening, NBC Philadelphia reported.

This isn’t the first tornado that has reached the area in recent memory. Last week, a EF0 tornado with peak winds of 65 miles per hour traveled a more than three-mile path in Martins Creek, dissipating just before it got to Belvidere, New Jersey.

The NWS survey “found several wheat fields to the west of Martins Creek Belvidere Highway showing convergent damage patterns along a narrow path.”
