Philadelphia Man Charged With Multiple Thefts in West Chester

WEST CHESTER —A 35-year-old Philadelphia man is accused of multiple thefts in business establishments in downtown West Chester.

Steven A. Sweeney is in Chester County Prison in lieu of $5,000 after being arraigned in Chester County District Court on charges of retail theft and conspiracy.

West Chester police responded to a report of retail theft at 2 p.m. May 25 in the first block of East Gay Street.

While on the scene of the retail theft, police were called to another business for a second retail theft in the 700 block of Miles Road.

Police later stopped a vehicle leaving the borough. During a traffic stop, Sweeney was arrested.

An investigation is ongoing.
