Police Help Addicts in Chester County Recover: DA Says

On International Overdose Awareness Day Wednesday, the Chesco DA reminds the public police refer addicts for treatment.

CHESTER COUNTY —Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan’s office reminded the community Wednesday that law enforcement officers are available to help those with substance abuse.

The message was delivered on International Overdose Awareness Day.

Chester County Chester County lost 109 people to overdoses in 2021, a number prosecutors and police hope to reduce, the message on Facebook stated.

Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s Enforcement Treatment Initiative – LETI for short – was introduced six months ago.

The goal of the program is to provide those with substance abuse the option of asking police for a referral for treatment.

In the first six months, there have been dozens of treatment referrals by police officers, hopefully, dozens of lives saved, the district attorney’s office reported.

For a low-level offender of nonviolent crimes, charges can be withdrawn with the successful completion of a treatment. More information is available here.
