Rainy Monday Breaks Heat Wave, Causes Hassles

The first heatwave of the season comes to soaking wet ending, just in time for the Monday morning commute.

 

Monday morning saw a steady soaking and brief torrential downpours as some of the remnants of a storm system that spawned deadly tornadoes in the heartland blew through Chester County and the region.

The storm brought and end to a four day streak of temperatures topping out in the 90's, marking the first official heatwave of the season. The National Weather Service defines as heat wave as:

"a period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and unusually humid weather. Typically a heat wave lasts two or more days."

What's Ahead for This Week?

The National Weather Service forecast for West Chester calls for temperatures peaking in the mid-70's for the rest of this week. Rain is expected to taper off and clear by Monday night or Tuesday morning.

  • Monday Afternoon Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Tonight Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. North wind around 8 mph.
  • Tuesday Sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph.
  • Tuesday Night Clear, with a low around 54. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.
  • Wednesday Sunny, with a high near 77. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon.
  • Wednesday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 55.
  • Thursday Partly sunny, with a high near 75.
  • Thursday Night A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Friday A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Friday Night A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
