Scammers Asking For Items For Oxford Fire Victims: Police

Oxford police said door-to-door solicitations are prohibited in the borough.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA —Beware of scammers going door-to-door claiming they are collecting items for the victims of the fire that displaced 80 people in Oxford borough on Wednesday night, police said Monday.

“The recent tragedy of the massive fire in Oxford, unfortunately, has given birth to people who would like to divert donations,” Oxford police said.

Oxford police prohibit door-to-door solicitations. A $1,000 fine will be imposed for anyone soliciting in the borough.

Residents are asked to call 911 immediately if anyone is knocking on the door soliciting donations.

A four-alarm fire Wednesday night displaced 80 people after spreading from a warehouse to a neighboring apartment building and stores on South Third Street. No one was reported injured.

The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Region has opened a shelter at Penn’s Grove Middle School in Oxford. The shelter provides individuals and families with meals, snacks, water, personal hygiene, and emotional support.
