WEST CHESTER, PA — A former teacher at West Chester Christian School was convicted of sexually assaulting a first-grader there in 2007.

Randy Lee Boston, 64, of Shickshinny, Luzerne County, was found guilty by a jury Wednesday in the Chester County Justice Center of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, indecent assault of a person under 13, corruption of minors, and related charges.

The verdict followed a three-day trial before Chester County Judge Patrick Carmody. Boston awaits sentencing. The jury deliberated for about three hours Wednesday.

The victim testified during the trial that he was forced to engage in sex acts when he was in first grade.

“Randy Boston’s appalling actions not only stole a 6-year-old’s innocence but set that child’s life on a trajectory of depression, fear, and anxiety,” District Attorney Deb Ryan said in a statement Thursday.

“The victim is commended for his courage when, after many years, he came forward to tell his family and police what happened to him.”

Ryan said this case demonstrates to other victims that it is never too late to speak up about crimes.

Boston’s lawyer, Evan J. Kelly of West Chester, argued the victim’s recollection was inconsistent.
Assistant District Attorney Christine Abatemarco said the victim did not speak up because the teacher is an authority figure.

According to court records:

  • In June 2021, West Goshen Township police received information that a 21-year-old victim was sexually abused by the defendant when he was in first-grade.
  • Investigators said the defendant ordered the victim to follow him to the basement before school one morning after witnessing the victim stick his tongue out at another student.
  • They said Boston then took the victim to a room, where he shut the door and told him to remove his belt and pull his pants down.
  • The defendant then sexually assaulted the boy.
