STONE HARBOR, N.J —A 15-year-old Chester County girl survived a shark attack Sunday off the 109th Street beach in Stone Harbor.

Maggie Drozdowski of Downingtown told CBS News 3 it was her first time surfing when she was bit by a shark.

“My whole body was basically in the water, and I was just resting and I felt something pressing,” Drozdowski told NBC10 Philadelphia. “I felt the pressure. It's like his teeth were around my foot.”

No swimming restrictions planned

The shark attack came as beachgoers are planning to celebrate Memorial Day at the Jersey shore.

No swimming restrictions to the beach at Stone Harbor have been made.

“Stone Harbor remains a beloved and popular destination for beachgoers from near and far,” Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour said in a statement. “The local police and fire departments are fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and tourists."

Shark attacks are rare.

The likelihood of a shark attack in the United States is estimated at 1 and 11.5 million, according to the International Shark Attack File Beach Injuries and Fatalities Report.

Drozdowski told ABC6 that she can’t imagine not going to the beach again but probably not this summer.
