State Police Alert Chesco Drivers Of Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint

PA State Police Avondale Barracks said they will hold a sobriety checkpoint over the coming weekend.

AVONDALE, PA — Starting Friday and continuing through the weekend, Pennsylvania State Police said Troop J in Chester County will hold a sobriety checkpoint in an effort to reduce injury crashes and fatalities.

Troop J of the Pennsylvania State Police, Avondale Barracks, will conduct the announced sobriety checkpoint.

A State Police news statement said, "A sobriety checkpoint is a traffic safety checkpoint wherein the Pennsylvania State Troopers systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for articulable facts and/or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug-impaired drivers."

The goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related fatal and serious injury crashes and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania highways.

"The Pennsylvania State Police is committed to maintaining a safe environment for the motoring public. This checkpoint is intended to achieve that goal," the statement said.
