Steakhouse Opens In West Chester Bank, Built In 1863

The neoclassical structure has been repurposed into a lavish steakhouse that aims to be the "state's grandest."

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester's thriving culinary scene is expanding.

9 Prime, located in a historic building on 9 N. High Street that previously housed the 1st National Bank, is now open. The lavish interior, renovated from a structure that dates to 1863, underscores what the eatery calls its three S's: steak, seafood, and splendor.

"In the heart of West Chester stands a 19th century neoclassical bank," owners said in a statement promoting the opening. "It was a pillar of Pennsylvanian ambition for over 150 years, but its vaults eventually closed and the building laid still, yearning for a return to glory."

The intricate interior also features a speakeasy called "Johnny O’s," named after owner and West Chester resident John O’Connell.

O'Connell teamed up with Chef Fabio Viviani in an effort to create what they call the "state's grandest steakhouse."
