Students On The Autistic Spectrum Camping At West Chester University
High school students are getting a taste of college participating in summer programs at West Chester University
WEST CHESTER, PA —Rising high school juniors and seniors on the autism spectrum are getting a taste of college this summer participating in several overnight camp programs at West Chester University.
The high school students are participating in the university’s Dub-C Autism Program, which advocates for the success of the university’s degree-seeking students on the autism spectrum.
“West Chester University’s inclusive campus community is a welcoming environment for all students, including those who are on the autism spectrum,” Cherie Fishbaughm, director of the school’s autistic program.

A total of 41 students from area high schools are living in residence halls and eating in the dining room on the college campus.
“With a variety of support and transition services, the university takes pride in empowering students who learn differently and works to help them succeed,” Fishbaughm said.

The college students in the Dub-C program are camp counselors of the high school students.
The high school students also learning from university students who are on the autism spectrum about classroom etiquette.
They are also having fun participating in scavenger hunts, ice cream socials, and recreational activities.
