Time To Sign Up For West Chester Borough Clean-Up In April

WEST CHESTER, PA — Spring cleaning is coming to West Chester Borough, though volunteer single-household teams this year won't meet up in one place before they head out in April, and they won't be working in high traffic areas.

The Borough said the 2021 West Chester Community Cleanup on April 24 and 25 will be "a fun, safe way to get out and make a positive impact in our community!"

Volunteers will receive a cleanup kit with instructions, a map of their area, and all of the materials for their cleanup team in a virtual version of the annual clean-up. The kits will be delivered to addressed of volunteers in the borough, or those outside borough limits can pick up their kits at 401 E. Gay Street the week of April 19.

An online sign-up site will help small groups choose an area that needs cleaning. Some areas near High, Gay, and Market streets are not on the maps because of safety concerns, the borough said.

West Chester Borough said if one area is claimed for clean-up, volunteers should just choose another one. Streets adjacent to parks are included when a group signs up to clean a park.

Volunteers can sign up as individuals or as a single-household team by clicking here. On the sign-up page, teams claim a 2-3 block are to clean. They must also complete a liability waiver, the borough said.

In order to keep the event COVID-19 safe, there will be no assigned times, so teams can space themselves throughout the days.

The borough asks volunteers to take a picture of their team in action and post it to social media using the hashtag #CleanAndGreenWC.

The cleanup will end with teams dropping off trash and recycling bags at the closest designated drop-off location found on the maps given out. Sign-up can be done here.
