Volunteer West Chester Firefighter Passes At 78

West Chester volunteer firefighter Richard Severson also loved horses, hunting, and barrel racing.

WEST CHESTER, PA -- Richard J. Severson, age 78, of Phoenixville, PA, formerly of Royersford, PA, died Sunday, April 23, 2017 after a lengthy illness in Seasons Hospice at Phoenixville Hospital. Born on January 30, 1939 in Beloit, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Howard and Emma (Oakes) Severson. He formerly was a police officer with South Coatesville and East Caln Police Departments. More recently he was working in security for Hershey's Mill Country Club in West Chester. He loved horses and would enjoy barrel racing in Wisconsin. He also enjoyed hunting and was a volunteer fire fighter in West Chester. He was a past president of the Lions Club in New Holland, PA.

Mr. Severson is survived by Four Daughters, Cynthia S. (Thomas) Henry of Richmond, VA, Deborah J. (George) Smith of Coatesville, PA, Pamela (James) Thompson of Pittsburgh, PA, Brenda K. (Robert) DiNicola of Royersford, PA; Six Grandchildren, Timothy, Stacy, Eric, Kerry, Travis, Kelly, and Fourteen Great Grandchildren,
