Want To Earn $94K In 2021? Apply To Be Director Of Voter Services
Chester County's Voter Services director retired in August 2020 and an acting director was appointed, leaving a vacancy to be filled.
CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Chester County has advertised for a Director of Voter Services at an annual salary of $93,996, for qualified persons with the fortitude to apply.
Sandra Burke ended her tenure as Director of Voter Services in Chesco at the end of August 2020. Bill Turner had been serving as Deputy Director for Emergency Management in Chester County when he was appointed as Acting Director of Voter Services in the midst of a contentious election season.
Chester County's Board of Commissioners named Burke Chester County's new Director of Voter Services in May 2019, but in July 2020 Burke gave notice she would soon retire, according to the county's information officer, Becky Brain. Burke's last day in the position was Aug. 29.

After Burke's resignation, said Brain, "Bill Turner was appointed acting director of Voter Services and led the team through the November General Election."
Turner was at the helm of Voter Services in one of the focal-point Pennsylvania counties that helped swing the election for President-elect Joe Biden. Chester County was one of seven Pennsylvania counties named in a lawsuit by the Trump campaign in late November. The lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge on Nov. 21.

The advertisement for Director of Voter Services in Chester County was posted earlier in December.
The ad asks for "a strategic and forward-thinking leader for the Director of Voter Services." It says, "This highly visible role will oversee and direct the department to ensure the integrity of the election process as it is implemented for all primary, general, and special elections."
Candidates should be well versed in Federal, State, and local rules/regulations impacting the County Election Board and possess a working knowledge of the technology used in elections. The Director should have exceptional public speaking, written communication, and organizational leadership skills to support department operations and management, the county's ad said.
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, or a related field, with five years of relevant experience or an equivalent of advanced training and experience. The county added, "We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits package."
