Guy Ciarrocchi Wins Republican Race In Chesco's U.S. 6th District

WEST CHESTER, PA — Guy Ciarrocchi won the Republican primary for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 6th District, according to the Associated Press and CNN.

The district covers all of Chester County and southeastern Berks.

Ciarrocchi, 57, of Tredyffrin Township, garnered 33% of the votes, or 23,116 in the primary, according to the unofficial vote tally from Chester and Berks counties.

In a close race, Steve Fanelli received 20,890 votes. Ron Vogel received 15,396 votes and Regina Mauro got 10,336 votes.

Ciarrocchi will face U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, a Democratic incumbent who garnered 68,954 votes.

Chiarrocchi, a former Tredyffrin Township supervisor and chairman of Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, was initially running for governor and switched in February to running for Congress.

Edward C. Sweeney, a member of the Republican Committee, said in a letter to voters at the poll that the committee recommended Ciarrochi for Congress.

Sweeney said in the letter that Chiarrochi is an effective, principled and compassionate conservative.

"Guy has always been a good leader, a good public speaker, thoughtful, measured and patient," Sweeney wrote.

Ciarrocchi is no stranger to working in government.

He was chief of staff to Lt. Governor Jim Cawley, U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach, and State Sen. Melissa Hart.

He also served as the director of Affairs for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

In June 2005, Guy was appointed as Philadelphia regional director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

He is a graduate of St. Joseph University and Villanova Law School.
