West Chester Man, VFW Commander, US Navy Vet, Dies at 88

Samuel Richard "Dick" Ellis of West Chester proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War.

WEST CHESTER, PA -- Samuel Richard "Dick" Ellis of West Chester.

Samuel Richard "Dick" Ellis, 88, of West Chester, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Tel Hai Retirement Community in Honey Brook.

He was the husband of Dolores Lessig Ellis.

Born December 26, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James M. Ellis and the late Eleanor Richards Ellis.

Dick proudly served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War.

Prior to his retirement, Dick was a Machinist with Wyeth for over 40 years.

He was a lifetime member of the West Chester VFW Post 106, and commander in 1971. He was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester.

Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lyndia Ellis, James Michael Ellis, Jennifer Ford (Thomas), Nancy Pinkerton, Laura Goslin, Jamie R. Barry, Jr., and Sue Gemma (Lou); grandchildren, Andrew, Sara, Matthew and Melinda; great grandchildren, Riley, Kaia, Hunter, Amelia and Ada; and her sister, Anne Martin.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Martha Davis and Eleanor Nancy Carey.

Relatives and Friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 1:00-2:30 pm at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc., 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380; followed by his Funeral Service at 2:30 pm.

Interment will be private.
