West Chester Police Are Investigating Theft Of A Catalytic Converter

Catalytic converters are being stolen because they are valuable to scrap metal dealers, according to National Insurance Crime Bureau.

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Police Borough Department are investigating the theft of a catalytic converters on July 23 from a car parked on 600 block of West Chestnut Street.

Through an investigation, it was discovered that four unknown suspects, driving a white Volkswagen, arrived in the area and cut the catalytic converter off of a Prius.

Thieves are stealing catalytic converters because they have valuable metal including platinum, palladium and rhodium that can be sold the scrap metal dealer, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, an organization based in Illinois, that tracks these thefts.
