West Chester Police Warn Of Extra Police Out Super Bowl Weekend

Chief James Morehead asked residents and visitors to act responsibly when celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

WEST CHESTER, PA — Police Chief James Morehead asked borough residents and visitors to act responsibly when celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles playing the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57.

“We are all excited about our Philadelphia Eagles and look forward to the game against the Kansas City Chiefs,” Morehead said in a letter to the community.

The chief said extra patrols will be stationed in the borough monitoring the bars and neighborhoods where there is typically an increase in criminal activity.

The chief said if behavior warrants police intervention, individuals could face criminal charges.

“Peaceful celebrations and gatherings are ones that do not disrupt the comfort and safety of others,” the chief said. “The police will intervene if members of a group are throwing things damaging property or acting in a menacing or threatening way.

"Please remember that there will be zero tolerance for disruptive and illegal behavior. “

The chief provided these safety tips:

  • Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings, especially vehicular traffic.
  • Do not walk with headphones
  • Do not wear all dark clothing so that motorists are unable to see you.
  • Avoid congregating in large crowds for safety reasons.

Morehead said West Chester is fortunate to have an exceptional community and university.

“It is our hope that you will enjoy the game and celebrate in a safe and responsible manner,” Morehead said in a letter also signed by Mayor Lillian L. DeBaptiste
