West Chester: Republican 6th-D Race Still Too Close To Call

WEST CHESTER —As of 8 p.m Wednesday night, election workers in Chester County were counting absentee and mail-in ballots.

Nearly a third of the 374,833 registered voters in Chester County turned out for the primary election on Tuesday, officials reported Wednesday.

A total of 118,656 residents, or 31% of the registered voters cast ballots in the primary.

The county also received 34,871 mail-in and absentee ballots.

By 8 p.m, a total of 33,564 mail-in and absentee ballots were counted.

The winner of the 4-way race in the Republican primary for the 6th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives has not yet been declared.

U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Easttown Township, a Democratic incumbent, ran unopposed. Houlahan garnered 57,088 votes in Chester County and 11,866 votes in Berks County, according to Chester and Berks election services.

Here are the unofficial results of the Republican primary as of 8:30 p.m., according to Chester County and Berks County election services:

• Guy Ciarrocchi: 23,114: including 20,131 votes in Chester County, and 2,983 votes in Berks County.
• Steve Fanelli: 20,890: 17,767 in Chester County and 3,123 in Berks County
• Ron Vogel: 15,396: 11,148 in Chester County and 4,248 in Berks County.
• Regina Mauro: 10, 346: 7,426 in Chester County; 2,920 in Berks County

Houlahan said that she looks forward to continuing to engage with every corner of our community, earn the voters’ support again, and driving solutions that tangibly improve their lives.

“Serving the good people of Chester and Berks counties is the honor of my lifetime and service I intend to continue,” Houlahan said after winning the primary.

“As an Air Force veteran, entrepreneur, teacher, and mother, I continue to meaningfully connect with and advocate for all people across our district,” Houlahan said.

“Our community trusts that working to rebuild the local economy, drive down the costs of everyday purchases, and ensure that our kids receive a world-class education, and to do so in a bipartisan and respectful manner, will continue to be my focus.”

Realtor Vogel, top vote getter in the Berks Republican primary, said in a Facebook post that he is disappointed he did not win the race, but grateful for the friends he made in the process.

Fanelli, a Chester County entrepreneur who started a fencing company, campaigned on strengthening the economy and restoring energy independence.

Chiarrochi, a former Tredyffrin Township supervisor and chairman of Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, was initially running for governor and switched in February to running for Congress.

Edward C. Sweeney, a member of the Republican Committee, said in a letter to voters at the poll that the committee recommended Ciarrochi for Congress.

Mauro, the daughter of Cuban immigrants, campaigned on school choice, reducing income tax and getting rid of mask mandates.
