West Chester & South Philly Eateries On Top 50 List in 2022

New York Times 2022 Top 50 restaurants include Andiario, West Chester, and Gabriella's Vietnam, South Philadelphia.

SOUTHEASTERN, PA — A Chester County farm-to-table restaurant and a South Philadelphia Vietnamese restaurant were among 50 restaurants in America on the New York Times “America’s Best Restaurants 2022” list.

The list consists of the 50 restaurants that the Times is most excited about right now.

The local restaurants to make the list are Andiario, 106 Gay St.,West Chester and Gabriella’s Vietnam, 1837 E. Passyunk Ave.

The list comes from food reporters, editors and critics traveling widely around the country.

The Times praised restaurant Andiario’s use of Pennsylvania produce in Italian cooking and highlighted Chef Thanh Nguyen’s contemporary Vietnamese cuisine in the South Philadelphia restaurant.

Here’s more about both restaurants:

  • Tony Andiario and Maria van Schaijik opened Andiario in 2018.

The restaurant in downtown West Chester has pre-set dinners celebrating the bounty of Pennsylvania produce. The menu changes every week and is inspired by the season. Dinners are $75 per person.

A recent review on Yelp from a patron, Maria S., described the menu as “beyond spectacular and completely memorable."

The restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday. Information is available at 484-887-0919. Reservations for the following month are become available on the 20th of the current month at noon on Andiario.com.

  • Gabriella’s Vietnam, 1837 E. Passyunk Ave. opened in February 2021.

Chef Thanh Nguyen’s is known for water fern dumplings topped with crackled pork, shrimp and catfish in a hot pot and sizzling savory crepes with pork, shrimp, bean sprouts, Vietnamese herbs and lettuce for wrapping.

Nguyen aims to bring the most authentic flavors of Vietnam to Philadelphia by introducing each dish exactly how it’s made in Vietnam. The ingredients come from local farmers markets.
