West Chester Trick-Or-Treating Not Forbidden, But Asks Respect

No formal date or time for trick-or-treating has been set by West Chester Borough this year, but a notice asks residents to be respectful.

Keeping lights on for trick-or-treaters is a traditional practice, and West Chester asks residents to respect others' choice about the traditional activity.

WEST CHESTER, PA — While West Chester Borough is under a State of Emergency declaration issued Friday by Mayor Dianne Herrin, guidance concerning trick-or-treating does not establish times or a date, and simply calls for respectful behavior.

"The Borough of West Chester does not establish dates or times for Trick-or-Treating. Because of COVID-19 concerns, many people will not be participating in Trick-or Treating this year," the statement reads.

Those who are not participating in the traditional Halloween activity may simply leave their home porch light off while treat-or-treaters come around, advises the Borough.

"Borough residents are reminded to please respect neighbors who do not participate in trick-or-treating. The standard practice is to keep your front porch light on if you are participating and to turn it off if you are not."

No other information about Halloween events is given at the Borough website as of Monday.
