10 Killed In PA House Fire, Including 3 Children: State Police

A criminal investigation is underway to determine what caused the Friday morning fire in Luzerne County.

NESCOPECK, PA — Ten people are dead following an early-morning fire in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania State Police confirmed Friday. Three children were among those killed.

Authorities responded to the fire in the 700 block of 1st Street in Nescopeck around 2:30 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police said in a release. When firefighters arrived, they found the two-story home completely engulfed in flames.

According to state police, people were trapped inside the home. Firefighters made attempts to reach them but were pushed back due to the intense flames and heat.

The victims ranged in age from 5 to 79. Three people were able to escape the fire safely.

A criminal investigation is underway, authorities said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Harold Baker, a firefighter with the Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Company, told WNEP that his children and grandchildren were in the home."I couldn't get in there to save them. That is the biggest thing that has been on me. I couldn't get in there to save them," Baker told WNEP.
