Man killed after crashing into stopped bus in Newberry (sungazette.com) — A Williamsport man in his mid-60s died Tuesday evening after his SUV crashed into the back of a stopped River Valley Transit Authority bus on West Fourth Street in Newberry. Emergency crews performed CPR and rushed him to UPMC Williamsport, but he could not be saved. The bus driver and two passengers were uninjured as city police and the coroner continue investigating the cause of death.

Williamsport swimming has success vs. Bloomsburg, Jersey Shore (sungazette.com) — Williamsport High’s swimmers dominated a home tri-meet, with both the boys and girls teams sweeping Bloomsburg and Jersey Shore behind standout performances from Brady Ross, Evan Summers, and several Millionaire relay squads. Local fans saw multiple first-place finishes, strong depth in relays, and promising times that could set up Williamsport athletes for postseason success.
   

3. On This Date: A Record Snowstorm In Two Northeast Cities During A Pandemic (weather.com) — Five years ago today, Williamsport was buried under a record 24.7 inches of snow in just 24 hours during Winter Storm Gail. The storm also shattered records in Binghamton, New York, dumping several feet of snow and disrupting travel across the interior Northeast during the COVID-19 pandemic.
   

4. State College man sentenced to decades in prison for creating child pornography (wtaj.com) — A major federal child-exploitation case was handled out of Williamsport’s U.S. District Court, where a State College man received a 30-year prison sentence for producing child pornography involving very young, nonverbal children. Investigators say he posed as a babysitter in 2023, and federal, local, and national agencies collaborated on the case, underscoring the region’s role in prosecuting serious offenses.
