Bucks, Montco Get $253 Million To Fight Coronavirus

The federal funding, approved by Congress in the coronavirus relief act, is for expenses that have arisen since the outbreak began.

LANGHORNE, PA — Bucks and Montgomery counties were awarded $253 million in federal grants to help fight the new coronavirus on Thursday.

The funding, which was approved in the coronavirus relief package recently approved by Congress, was announced by U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who represents Bucks and part of Montgomery County.

Out of 57 counties in Pennsylvania, Bucks and Montgomery were two of only seven counties to receive the funds, Fitzpatrick said.

"This money will provide a much-needed boost to help residents in our congressional district get through this pandemic," Fitzpatrick said. "We are all united in this fight and we are most effective when all levels of our government, federal, state, and local, are working together to help our community."

The CARES Act requires that payments from the Coronavirus Relief Fund be used only to cover expenses that:

  • are necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the coronavirus
  • were not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020
  • were incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020, and ends on December 30, 2020.

Fitzpatrick said more help remains on the way, including Health and Human Service grants for hospitals and other healthcare providers. His office will continue to monitor and advocate for those and other funds, he said.

Earlier this month, the Department of Housing and Urban Development received $12.4 billion to be disbursed as quickly as possible to help communities across our country address COVID-19.

That money is being distributed through grants for services including emergency shelters, housing assistance and more.
