Smoke Detectors Saved Lower Makefield Family In Fire: FD

The Yardley-Makefield Fire Company said a family escaped a recent house fire in the Bridle Estates Development.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A family was able to escape their home last week after smoke detectors alerted them that it was on fire, authorities said.

The Yardley-Makefield Fire Company responded last Tuesday morning, along with Newtown Rescue 45, to a house fire in the Bridle Estates Development.

Fire crews found a fire in the garage that was held in check by the garage door.

The fire was contained to the garage with smoke damage to the home, authorities said.

The Yardley-Makefield Fire Company credited the family for keeping the garage door closed to contain the fire spread, while also having working smoke detectors.

"The residents were awakened by the smoke detectors to safely evacuate," the fire company said. "Working smoke detectors saved lives."
