Lower Makefield Closures Extended To Mid-April

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Public parks and other facilities in Lower Makefield will be shut down until mid-April as the township responds to the new coronavirus outbreak.

Township Manager Kurt Ferguson announced that the closures, which had been set to run through March 30, have been extended to April 13 in response to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf's stay-at-home order for Bucks County and six other counties.

In Lower Makefield, the following facilities are among those that are closed to the public:

• government offices
• township parks
• tennis courts
• Makefield Highlands Golf Club
• Five Mile Woods

In a video shared Monday on social media, Ferguson also announced that township staff have been reassigned to make daily calls to senior citizens in the township to check on their well-being.

"If there are concerns that a senior doesn't have food, doesn't have their medicine or has some other issue that needs addressed, we will refer that to the police department to do a direct check or to call the necessary agencies to help them," Ferguson said.

The township is working from a list of seniors collected through the existing Police-Senior Partnership Program. If you know of anyone who should be added to the list, you may do so by calling 267-274-1101 or email cholmes@lmt.org.

The next scheduled meeting of the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors is April 1. Ferguson said officials are working to have that be a remote meeting. Details on how the public may watch the meeting and participate in it — via a call-in number or online messages — will be announced beforehand, he said.

Ferguson also announced that the deadline to pay the next scheduled bill from the township, the sewer bill, has been delayed. Sewer bills originally due on April 24 have been extended to May 24 with no penalty, Ferguson said.
