Morrisville Woman Sentenced For False Auto Insurance Claims

Prosecutors said Shaminga L. Davis, 32, defrauded two auto insurance companies of almost $40,000.

MORRISVILLE, PA — A judge sentenced a Morrisville woman to four to 23 months in the county jail for submitting a series of false auto insurance claims over the past few years, according to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said Shaminga L. Davis, 32, defrauded two auto insurance companies of almost $40,000. On Wednesday, she pleaded guilty to a retail theft case, prosecutors said. Back in January, she pleaded guilty to insurance fraud and theft by deception.

A detective with the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office investigated eight claims made by Davis between March 4, 2016 and March 9, 2018. The investigation found that Davis filed seven claims under a State Farm insurance policy and filed another through a Geico policy that she took out using the identity of her ex-boyfriend, prosecutors said.

The investigation also found that some of the claims were duplicates of earlier claims. Many times, after Davis was issued a payment, investigators said she would contact the insurance company saying she never received the payment. The insurance company would then send her a second payment.

Authorities said the investigation found that she did receive the original checks and cashed or deposited both checks
