New Garbage Pickup In Yardley: Here Are The Details

Starting on Jan. 1, Yardley Borough now has a new company providing garbage pickup. A councilwoman answered questions about the change.

YARDLEY, PA — Effective on Jan. 1, Yardley Borough now has a new company handling garbage pickup.

On Facebook, Yardley Councilwoman Caroline Thompson posted a fact sheet of sorts, answering questions that residents may have about the new trash service. Here's a rundown of some of the information from her post:

  • Who is Yardley's new trash hauler? It's Republic Services.
  • Will garbage pickup days change? No. Pickup days will remain Wednesday and Saturday for trash and Wednesdays for recycling.
  • Will my rates go up? No. The rates are expected to remain the same.
  • Why did Yardley change from Waste Management? The borough's contract with Waste Management ended on Dec. 31, 2019. The borough was required to put the contract out for bid and go with the lowest bidder. Republic was the lowest bidder after two rounds of bidding.
  • How long is the new contract? Three years. The contract runs through Dec. 31, 2023.
  • Who do I call for a missed pickup? You can report missed pickups directly to Republic or to Yardley Borough staff. Republic has strict performance criteria built into its contract, Thompson said.

"Change is always hard, but we're pleased to have delivered a three-year contract to residents with no rate increase, while rates in neighboring towns continue to climb," Thompson said in her post. "Thanks for your understanding!"
