Pennsbury Student Art To Be Displayed Next Month

The juried exhibition at AOY Art Center will showcase student work, with prizes for top finishers.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Artwork by students from Pennsbury High School will be on display at a gallery show next month.

The AOY Art Center will be hosting the fourth-annual gallery show of adjudicated work by Pennsbury artists. The public will be welcome to an opening reception at the center from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24.

The show will continue that Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25-26, and the following weekend, Feb. 1-2. Gallery hours on the weekend are noon-5 p.m.

The showcase of up-and-coming talent will be judged by members of the AOY Art Center. First prize is $500, with a second-place prize of $300 and $200 for third place. Three $50 gift certiifcats from Jerry's Artarama will be awarded for honorable mentions.

A variety of student work in many different media will be on display, including paintings, drawings, sculpture and digital photography. Work will be adjudicated and selected for the exhibition during the Pennsbury High School art majors show at PHS East on Jan. 9.

The AOY Art Center is located on Patterson Farm, at 949 Mirror Lake Rd. in Lower Makefield.

This year's AOY jurors are artists Donna Lynn Sheehan and Connie Dierks.

Award money comes from a new donation by an anonymous AOY member and a donation made by AOY member Fran Leyenberger in memory of her husband, Chris.

"On behalf of the art department, I’d like to say that this partnership with the AOY Art Center is a win-win for both the students of Pennsbury and the community," said Ruth Anne Schultz, Pennsbury's K-12 art curriculum coordinator. "We appreciate all the extra effort that AOY is contributing to host this student show and we are excited this will provide more community exposure for the work of our students and their teachers."
