Yardley Council Filling Vacant Seat ... Again

Applications to fill a two-year vacancy on the borough council are being accepted now through Jan. 31 in Yardley.

YARDLEY, PA — Yardley Borough Council is once again looking to fill a vacant position after a candidate elected in November declined to accept his seat.

It's the second time a seat has needed to be filled on the council in just over a month, after a sitting councilwoman resigned from the council after the elections.

The current, two-year opening was created when Councilman-elect Patrick McGovern failed to accept his seat. McGovern, a Democrat, acknowledged writing racially insensitive posts — which he said were satire — on a fake Facebook account that was active on Yardley-area pages.

Those posts were cited by former Councilwoman Sandi Brady, a Republican, who resigned from the council the day after Democrats won every seat that was on the ballot.

The current opening will run through Dec. 31, 2021. Any Yardley resident interested in applying for the post may do so by filling out an application on the Yardley Borough website or contacting the borough office.

All application documents must be filed with borough hall, to the attention of Borough Manager Paula Johnson (pjohnson@yardleyboro.com) or mailed to 56 S. Main St., Yardley, by midnight on Jan. 31.

In order to be eligible, a candidate must be registered to vote in the borough at the time application documents are received. They must complete and submit the appointment form containing personal information and a description of their background, qualifications and other information. The application must have two references and be signed and dated by the applicant.

Each applicant will be interviewed by council at a public meeting that will be streamed online. Applicants will be notified of their interview date and time. Due to time restraints, interviews cannot be rescheduled.

The interviews will be held on the evening of Feb. 4 or Feb. 11. The public will be allowed to ask questions during the interview. Any additional questions should be addressed to Johnson at the email address above.
