A maximum security prisoner was caught with synthetic marijuana tucked in his waistband, police said.

Fernando Jesurum, 37, was charged in August with misdemeanor possession of 10 grams or less of a controlled substance.

On May 29, a correctional officer "discovered suspicious papers concealed in the waistband of Inmate Jesurum," A Rhode Island State Police report said.

The "suspicious papers" were tested with a TruNarc drug identification machine and turned out to be synthetic marijuana, according to the report.

Jesurum faces another possession of a controlled substance case as well as a charge of assault on a correctional officer, court records show.
