Rhode Island Cops Make 53 DUI Arrests From NYE To Jan. 5: Police Chiefs Association

Ocean State officers made 53 driving under the influence arrests from New Year's Eve through Sunday, according to the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association.

Rhode Island police officers made a total of 3,200 DUI arrests in 2025, according to the association.

"These figures represent the combined efforts of all 38 municipal police departments and the Rhode Island State Police," the police chiefs association said in a media release.

“While many were celebrating the New Year, law enforcement officers across Rhode Island were working to identify and stop impaired drivers,” Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas F. Oates III, the president of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, said in the release.

“Those efforts led to 53 arrests during the holiday period and more than 3,200 DUI arrests statewide in 2025," Oates said.

"These numbers show why impaired driving remains one of the most serious threats to roadway safety," he said. "I commend the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies across Rhode Island for working together to protect the public and remove impaired drivers from our roads. Driving under the influence is a serious offense with real consequences, and we will continue to take it seriously every day of the year."
