Rhode Island Police Make 59 DUI Arrests Over Labor Day Weekend
The president of the Rhode Island Police Chief Association said he was "proud" of the number of arrests.
Police officers across Rhode Island made 59 driving under the influence arrests over the course of the Labor Day Weekend, according to the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association.
"This figure represents the combined efforts of all 38 municipal police departments and the Rhode Island State Police," the association said in a statement on its website.
"Unfortunately, 59 individuals made the dangerous choice to drive impaired over Labor Day weekend, putting their lives and the lives of others at serious risk," Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas F. Oates III, who is the president of the association, said in the statement.

"I’m proud of the coordinated efforts by law enforcement across Rhode Island to hold these drivers accountable and keep our roads safe," Oates said. "Impaired driving is no minor offense. We take it seriously, and so should everyone who gets behind the wheel."
